A ticket for you is not necessarily a ticket or a space for your bike. Rules depend on the operator, train type, time and capacity. Check the whole journey, including changes between services.
Start with the service type
| Service | What to check |
|---|---|
| Copenhagen S-train | Bikes travel free; station restrictions and available space still matter |
| DSB regional train | DSB describes free carriage outside peak hours; tickets apply at other times |
| InterCity and InterCityLyn | Check the bicycle reservation requirement for your departure |
| Aarhus Letbane | Ordinary bikes travel free if space is available |
This overview was checked against DSB's baggage and bicycle rules and Midttrafik's rules. Follow those sources for exact times, exceptions and changes. Check Metro and other rail operators separately.
Plan the return journey too
You may leave outside peak hours and come home during them. Check both directions. Look for replacement buses as well: a service normally operated by train does not guarantee that your bike can travel during disruption.
Decide in advance what you would do if the bike cannot board. Options include a later service, station parking or cycling the remaining distance. Allow time to reach the platform and locate the right part of the train without rushing with the bike.
Pay particular attention at Nørreport
DSB lists peak-hour restrictions on boarding and leaving S-trains with a bike at Nørreport. If you commute through it, check the station information before settling on a daily routine. Free carriage does not mean unrestricted boarding at every station at every time.
Leaving a bike at the station
Think about whether it needs to make the entire journey. If you only cycle between the station and work, parking may be simpler. Investigate access, signs and locking arrangements, and include the walk from the parking area in your time estimate.
How this applies to a subscription bike
A Ring Ring bike is an ordinary bicycle, but the transport operator's rules still apply. We do not sell train tickets or reserve bicycle spaces. Your responsibility for the bike during transport and parking follows the subscription agreement.
Mention a station-to-work commute when requesting a bike. We investigate the shop and collection arrangement after receiving the request. Read how subscriptions work or the Aarhus cycling guide.
